Nothing As Art

There is art in doing nothing
A careful mindfulness is required
To sit still on a day
When so much is expected
Takes the will of a dedicated
Monk. To shut out the nagging
And invective from those who
Cannot relax nearly as well as you.

I have studied that art,
The art of doing nothing
When all around chores call me
To action. In idleness is satisfaction.
In doing, only toil and distraction.
Wake me when the grass is longer
And the leaves are piled on the lawn
In the meantime in these idle days of summer
I greet my obligations with a yawn.
