An academic day

Into the class, into their lives.
Into their minds and hearts.
Laughing and telling and giving advice.
Being all wise and smart.

Into the meeting, on the agenda.
Planning and scheming and cool.
Eating the biscuits and drinking the tea.
And following all the rules.

Into the office, into the world.
Through pixels and keys and mouse.
Organising myself and others.
And keeping an ordered house.

Into my researcher role at last.
To think, create and share.
Writing new meanings and nonsense as well.
And pulling out all of my hair!

Makes me think that ...

The lives of academics are full of many things: lecturing, teaching, mentoring, marking, meetings and office work. Alongside all that they need to research to discover new knowledge about so many things.
