St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay

We began our research in to the various coast to coast routes by looking at what are commonly described as the most popular. These seem to start in the north west, places such as Whitehaven, Southport and St Bees and terminate in places like Sunderland, Tynemouth and Robin hood's Bay.


We decided to start our research with a detailed look at the off-road route from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay In fact you can start in Whitehaven and finish in Robin Hood's Bay as the two routes join each other at Egremont and run along side each other until Cross Rigg when they divide. One runs slightly more southerly to Robin Hood's Bay and the other more northerly to Tynemouth.


We have published an overview map and elevation profile of St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay here. The basic stats are that it is 217 miles long (347 kms) and that you gain 6880 m (22,572 feet) in altitude over the length of the ride. It looks like quite a ride.
